Made with Xara Things To Do        This page is for visitors to the area and residents looking       for inspiration during holidays or weekends. Things to Do   - Local Walks Norton is remarkably well served by footpaths, both in the immediate village and making attractive links with Ham Hill and the neighbouring villages, all of which at the moment have their welcoming pubs.  Ham Hill is a useful starting point.  Managed by South Somerset District Council as a Country Park, it has its own seasonal programme of guided walks and events.   Contact the Rangers’ Office (01935 823617)  for details. The Hill is unique as the crossing place for a number of long distance paths.  The Liberty Trail to Lyme Regis starts there and the Leland Trail from King Alfred’s Tower north of Stourhead ends there.  The Parrett Trail from Wynyards Gap on the Dorset borders to the Severn Estuary includes a loop which detours at Wigborough to pass through Norton village and ascend Ham Hill.  It then heads for Bower Hinton and veers westwards to rejoin the main trail near Gawbridge Mill. And you may well meet signs for the Monarch’s Way, the Wessex Ridgeway or the Macmillan (Cancer) Way, all of which come and go within the area -  riches indeed for those who love walking.  The O.S. Explorer Map No. 129  (Yeovil and Sherborne) is excellent value, having Norton at its centre and being two-sided. ‘Norton Here and There’ and ‘Norton Near and Far’ These two booklets, produced locally, contain a series of country walks in and around Norton.  There are in all 30 different circular walks of between 5- 9 miles,  each giving simple route descriptions, some local background and reference to the relevant O.S.maps.  Parking  places are suggested and there is a ‘pub’ midway on all walks. They are available, price £2-50p. each  (£3-00 by post)  from the Spar Stores or from:  Ken Dives     Tel:  01935  881046        Email: kdives@btinternet.com The following attractions are all within easy reach of Norton-sub-Hamdon (30 miles maximum).
